What are the great debates of our generation? All you have to do is watch the news, read today’s headlines, or pay attention to the hot topics. From gender confusion to the deception surrounding abortion — it’s clear that there’s an agenda of death and destruction.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. —John 10:10
On the other hand, when you read and study the scriptures, you’ll notice another major theme. In John 10:10, Jesus summarizes the stark difference between life and death, light and darkness, good and evil. He makes it clear that his purpose is to give life, and the life He gives means more than mere survival.
It’s possible to experience life to the full right here and right now.
The word for “life” in John 10:10 is zōē. Let’s look at the definition:
- Of the absolute fullness of life
- Life real and genuine
- Life active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed, in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ … and to last forever
This life is abundant in quality and eternal in quantity. It’s a life of provision, peace, and joy, no matter your circumstances. It comes as a result of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. He defeated death, ascended to heaven, and reigns today as King of kings and Lord of lords.
This is the gospel, the good news that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). He brings salvation, forgiveness, deliverance, victory, wholeness, and prosperity in the fullest sense.
On a scale of 1 to 10 (worst to best), how abundant, full, and satisfying is your life?
It’s possible to have a 10 out of 10 life!
Life to the full comes not through trying harder but by simply believing in Jesus. Trust in Him today as your Savior, Shepherd, Healer, and Provider. He will fill you with His life-giving Spirit.
